L’àvia Felisa

Felisa grandma

L’àvia Felisa or Felisa grandma is a project in which we work with the jewels that my mother and I inherited from my grandma Felicidad. In this project we gathered and put all the grandmother’s jewels together: medals, a cross and a dressing in communion in order to keep the essence of this mother and grandmother through two of her descendants. We wanted to transform those symbols that were not representative for us, in ways that were better adapted to the new wearers, but without losing the sentimental value that these gold objects had, to which so much was associated to this person that we love. The first thing I did was look for a photograph of Felisa and remember her, recreate her features and draw all the gestures that made her be her. From these memories, we decided to pay tribute to him: go to a very special natural place for us and collect thyme, that plant that has so many properties and so strong to remedy countless diseases and ailments. We wanted to return to the jewels the essence of this person who cared and watched over us so much, as this plant does. And thus, stripping them of their forms and giving them fully to that feeling that was so representative from her, care. From among the thyme we took we selected a twig and transformed it into Felisa through its gold, using the technique of casting natural elements. With that twig grandmother we made two rings, one for the daughter and one for the granddaughter. In this way, the affection and care of Felicidad would still be present and tangible in our hands through two circles of gold thyme.
